A Vimeo video can be watchable without being available as a downloadable file. To save a copy, use the creator’s download option or an accessible public file that you have permission to keep. If you only need to watch on a flight or commute, the Vimeo app’s offline feature may be enough.
For public links, AirMore provides a browser-based way to check available files. The important choice is the result type: a direct video file can be saved to your device; a streaming playlist is not the same thing as a ready-to-play MP4.
| Method | What you get | Main limit |
|---|---|---|
| AirMore | Available public file or stream | Depends on source access |
| Vimeo Download | Creator-approved file version | Downloads must be enabled |
| Vimeo app offline | Playback inside the app | Not an exportable video file |
1. Save a public Vimeo video with AirMore
AirMore’s Vimeo downloader works in a browser on a computer or phone. Paste the URL of one public video and it checks the playback files made accessible by the source. It is useful when you want to compare the available formats without installing another app.
Use your own video or one whose creator has allowed you to save a copy. Public visibility alone is not permission. Private, password-protected, login-required, paid and DRM-protected videos are outside this tool’s supported scope.
Open AirMore Vimeo Video Downloader

- Open the individual Vimeo video and copy its page link. Use the video URL, not a profile, channel, collection or search-results page.
- Open AirMore’s Vimeo downloader below. Paste the complete link into the Vimeo video URL field and choose Analyze video.
- Check the title and media options returned. If a direct MP4 or other usable video file is offered, select the quality you need. Do not assume every link offers 1080p, 4K or the uploaded original.
- Save the file while the result link is current. Open the saved copy, check the beginning and end, and confirm that its audio plays.
If the result is labeled HLS, DASH, .m3u8 or .mpd, it describes a stream rather than a standalone MP4. Renaming that file will not convert it. Use an available direct-file option or request a downloadable copy from the creator.
2. Use Vimeo’s official Download button
When the creator enables downloads, Vimeo offers its own file selection on the video’s Vimeo page. This is particularly useful when you need the version the creator has chosen to distribute. An embedded player on another website may not show the same controls.
Open the video on vimeo.com, look for Download beneath the player, choose an offered version, and save it. Sign in if Vimeo requests it; downloading the source file of a public video requires login. If the file opens in a new tab, use the browser’s save-link option instead of saving the entire web page.
Vimeo’s official download instructions

For creators: Vimeo lists download-permission controls as a paid-plan feature. In your Library, open the video, choose Share, then look under Viewer permissions for Downloads. This is a creator-side setting, not a promise that buying a viewer subscription unlocks every video. Vimeo download permissions
3. Find the video on PC, iPhone or Android
PC or Mac
Use Chrome, Edge or Safari to complete either file-download method above. Open the browser’s downloads list to see progress and locate the finished file. Unless you chose another folder, check Downloads in Windows File Explorer or macOS Finder.
For presentations, test the saved copy in the player you will actually use. A large filename or high resolution alone does not prove that audio, duration and playback are correct. Keep the creator’s credit and reuse conditions with the file.
iPhone or iPad
Open the download page in Safari. After saving a video file, open Files, choose Browse, and look in Downloads under iCloud Drive or On My iPhone, depending on your Safari settings. The Safari downloads button can also take you to the file.
A download does not automatically appear in Photos. Open the compatible video in Files, tap Share and choose Save Video if that action is available. If it is missing, keep the file in Files or use a compatible player; a stream playlist cannot be saved to Photos as a movie.

Android
Open the link in Chrome, analyze it in AirMore or use Vimeo’s available Download option, and confirm the file download. In Chrome, open the menu and Downloads; alternatively check the Downloads folder in your file manager.
If your gallery does not show the video, open it from Downloads first. Check that the transfer finished and that it is a video file rather than an HTML page or playlist. File-manager names vary by phone brand.

4. Watch offline in the Vimeo app
Offline viewing in the Vimeo app serves a different purpose: it keeps eligible videos available inside the app. It is convenient for travel when you do not need an editable or shareable file.
For a video that offers the offline action, add it to the app’s offline playlist while connected, let the transfer finish, and check playback before leaving your connection. Menu placement can vary by app version. App offline copies are not exports to Files, Photos or another video editor.

5. Fix missing buttons and failed downloads
No Download button
Open the actual Vimeo video page rather than an embedded player and check the account you are using. The owner may not have enabled downloads. Ask them for an authorized file or to enable the option; another downloader cannot promise to unlock it.
AirMore returns no usable file
Confirm that the individual video plays publicly and that the URL is complete. Availability depends on the source. A playable stream can exist without a direct-file option; use the official download or contact the creator.
The result link has expired
Return to the tool, analyze the original video page again, and use the new result promptly. Bookmark the article or video page rather than treating a temporary media link as a permanent archive.
The file will not play or has no sound
Check the file extension, completed file size and whether the option was video-only or a stream. Try another explicitly offered video-file version. Downloading a small HTML error page again will not fix a permissions problem.
Frequently asked questions
Can I save Vimeo videos for free?
AirMore is presented as a free online tool; use the limits and messages shown on its current page. On Vimeo, what you can download depends on creator settings, the file version and account requirements. Paying for a viewer account does not automatically unlock someone else’s restricted files.
Can I download a private video or paid course?
AirMore does not support private, password-protected or paid videos. Use the creator’s authorized download route. For Vimeo On Demand, a purchase is not by itself a guarantee that the seller has enabled file downloads.
Can I always get the original quality?
No. A public playback version may be compressed and differ from the uploaded source. Choose the original only when Vimeo explicitly offers it to your account; otherwise ask the creator for the source file.
Does downloading include subtitles?
Do not assume that a separate caption track will be embedded in the saved video. Check the downloaded file with captions enabled. If a separate subtitle file is available with permission, keep it with the video and use a player that supports it.
Can I download an entire showcase at once?
This guide uses individual video links. Vimeo’s standard download instructions do not offer bulk downloading. For a project archive, ask the owner to deliver a folder of approved source files rather than assuming one collection link will export everything.
Can I repost a downloaded video?
Saving a copy and publishing a copy are different permissions. Check the creator’s license or obtain approval before editing, redistributing or reposting. For a private presentation, also confirm that your intended audience and use are allowed.
Choose a direct file when you need a portable copy, and the official app when you only need offline viewing. Start with a short playback check before relying on a saved video for a meeting or a journey.
