Manus 2.0 is most interesting when your work needs an editable result: a short video, a small website, a playable prototype or a recurring workflow. Its appeal is the handoff between asking AI to build something and adjusting the result yourself. For a quick answer or occasional rewrite, it may add more cost and setup than you need.

What is Manus 2.0—and is it a new AI model?

Released on September 28, 2026, Manus 2.0 updates an AI agent platform. Cascade coordinates tools and models; Studio provides a workspace for making and editing deliverables. Do not interpret “2.0” as downloadable foundation-model weights or a benchmark score for a single LLM.

Use the official web app for an initial project, or install Studio for desktop work. Cue is a separate personal-agent app, announced in limited, invite-based early access; its iOS release was still pending App Store review at launch. Check its current availability before planning a phone-first workflow.

What changed: editing, event triggers and persistent projects

The headline additions are a video timeline, Game Dev, event-triggered Automations and a purchasable Cloud Computer. Video Editor lets you revise individual components rather than regenerate the entire piece. Game Dev combines generated assets and code with manual editing; persistent multiplayer hosting adds a separate operating-cost question.

Cascade’s reported improvements—23.2% fewer tokens, 28.2% less completion time and 32% lower operating cost—come from one vendor-tested configuration. They are not a promise that your subscription or every task will be 32% cheaper. No independent reproduction is established here.

For a marketing team, the useful test is whether you can replace a product shot without rebuilding an approved edit. For a prototype, test the complete interaction and error states, not just the opening screen. This makes revision quality and retained control more meaningful than a flashy first generation.

Pricing: subscription credits are only part of the bill

On September 29, the monthly pricing page displayed US$20 for 4,000 credits, US$40 for 8,000 and US$200 for 40,000. Annual billing advertised 17% savings. These are displayed monthly tiers, not an unlimited-work promise; verify the checkout total and available features before paying.

The free-credit help page describes 300 daily credits claimed by logging in, a 1,500-credit monthly cap for Free users, and Lite-only eligibility; it still uses 1.6 labels. Treat that as published free-plan guidance, not proof that every new Studio feature is free.

Keep three budgets separate: agent work, hosting or a dedicated Cloud Computer, and any paid connected services. WebDev runtime billing is separate from the credits used to build an app. API tasks also need a usage budget; do not assume a flat price per request or a free developer allowance.

For a useful trial, run the same small deliverable twice, note consumed credits, then record how long your corrections take. Compare the cost per usable result, including revisions, rather than dividing a subscription by a guessed number of tasks. Manus publishes prices in USD; bank conversion and applicable charges determine the local amount.

A practical first project: brief → draft → revision

Start with one bounded deliverable and a copy of your source material. The following is a suggested evaluation workflow, not a claim that we ran a paid Studio production test.

1. Sign in through the official Manus site. For local files, install the official desktop app and authorize only the relevant project folder.
2. Provide the audience, output format, supplied assets and definition of done. Ask for the plan before expensive generation or deployment.
3. Approve a small first draft. Check one difficult requirement early—such as text legibility, a calculation or a functional button.
4. Request a precise revision while preserving approved parts. Compare the revised output with the original requirement.
5. Export and open the result independently. Record the credits spent and remaining defects before expanding the project.

Video brief

Create a 30-second product-video draft using only the supplied product photos. Audience: small online retailers. Use English captions, a quiet visual style and no invented claims. Show the storyboard first. Keep text and audio editable where supported. Do not publish or buy assets.

Research deliverable

Compare three suppliers from their official pages. Deliver a spreadsheet with the source URL, currency, minimum order and unknowns for each. Do not fill gaps with guesses. Add a one-page recommendation explaining the tradeoffs. Stop before contacting anyone.

Automations: start with one event and a reviewable output

The documented entry point is Automations → Create. Choose Schedule for a time-based run, Trigger for an app event, or Advanced automation for a more complex routine. Supported events vary with the connector and account; some sources are polled rather than instant.

Connect the intended account, define which events qualify and choose where the result goes. Before enabling routine use, run a matching test event and a nonmatching one. Inspect Updates for the result and Manage for editing, pausing or testing the workflow.

A restrained email workflow

When a new message from the approved supplier arrives with an invoice attached, extract invoice number, due date, currency and total into a review table. Flag missing fields and duplicates. Prepare a summary for me; do not pay, forward messages or change accounting records.

Official API, desktop requirements and local deployment

The official developer entry is open.manus.ai. Its current documentation presents API v2; v1 is deprecated. This is an agent-task API, not simply a model name to paste into any chat-completion client.

For your own integration, create a key in Manus Developers settings, store it server-side and use the x-manus-api-key header. Start with task.create, retain the returned task_id, then inspect progress and results through the documented lifecycle. A created task is not yet a finished deliverable.

Agent profiles are standard, lite and max. The v2 reference says versioned aliases do not independently pin a model version. Confirm the current schema before reusing old examples. This review does not establish an API token price or equal API access to every Studio editor.

Studio supports Windows and macOS downloads, but running the desktop app is not self-hosting the Manus agent. Local file or GPU work can still consume cloud orchestration credits. There is no verified public Manus 2.0 weight download or fully offline installation procedure in the release material. A gaming GPU is not a prerequisite for trying the web service.

Compare complete workflows, not Manus against a bare language-model leaderboard. ChatGPT Work and Claude’s Cowork capabilities also execute multi-step tasks and produce files. Manus should earn its place through the specific editor, automation or project workflow you need.

Use the same source files and acceptance criteria for each candidate. Score factual errors, whether the exported file opens correctly, revision effort and total usage cost. A tool that finishes faster but requires rebuilding the result is not necessarily the better purchase.

Early reviews, NSFW and the limitations that matter

Paul Thurrott’s September 28 coverage outlines the new platform, but is launch reporting rather than a measured hands-on verdict. It should not be presented as proof of output quality.

On the release Reddit thread, ComputerArtClub describes earlier slide, website and coding use while hoping 2.0 catches up; PresenceSmall1651 reports a Cue calling-setup problem. These are individual early signals, not a reliability survey. The March 2025 Tom’s Guide comparison is genuine historical testing, but it cannot rank this September 2026 release.

NSFW: we did not establish an official unrestricted-adult-content mode or a dependable explicit-content allowance for Manus 2.0. An adult account requirement does not imply pornography support. FAQ and verdict

Is Manus 2.0 free?

A free option exists, but credits and feature eligibility are limited. Start with a small task and check the account’s current allowances; a free signup does not prove unrestricted Studio or Cue access.

Does the 32% cost reduction lower my bill?

Not automatically. It is a vendor result for one configuration, not a subscription discount or guaranteed saving on your workload. Check actual credits consumed.

Can I run it offline on my PC?

Installing Studio does not install open model weights. Local tools may execute on your machine, while agent orchestration still uses Manus infrastructure and credits.

Can I use it through an API?
