Shark's new robovac has a UV light to make your grubby floors glow — before scrubbing them clean again

Shark has unveiled its latest flagship cleaning device, the PowerDetect 2-in-1 Robot Vacuum and Mop, which introduces advanced NeverMiss UV technology to detect hidden stains and microscopic debris on hard floors. By utilizing ultraviolet light, the robot can identify biological traces and grime that are invisible to the naked eye, ensuring that areas requiring intensive cleaning are prioritized. Once a mess is detected, the machine engages its high-speed scrubbing system to eliminate tough, dried-on stains, providing a more thorough sanitization than standard robotic mops.

The robot is supported by an intelligent Auto-Empty and Refill Pro base station, which allows for up to 60 days of hands-free operation. This docking station not only empties the dustbin into a sealable bagless system but also refills the mop's water reservoir and dries the cleaning pads with hot air to prevent unpleasant odors and bacterial growth. For navigation, the system employs advanced 3D sensors and mapping technology to navigate efficiently through complex home layouts while avoiding small obstacles like cables or clutter.

Marketed as a high-performance alternative to premium competitors, the Shark PowerDetect aims to simplify home maintenance through automated sensing and floor care. Its integration of multi-surface detection allows it to transition seamlessly between vacuuming carpets and mopping hard floors, automatically lifting the pads when it senses fabric to prevent dampening rugs. This combination of UV detection, AI-driven obstacle avoidance, and comprehensive self-maintenance features positions Shark as a significant upgrade in the smart home appliance market.
